Pair arrested for stealing over $6,600 in merchandise from Jasper store
Two women were booked into the Dubois County Security Center overnight on felony theft charges stemming from an internal theft investigation at Carson’s in Jasper.
Taylor M. Beck, 21, of 8th Street, Jasper and Melissa S. McTier, 29, of S. Central Street, French Lick, allegedly stole $6,619.31 worth of merchandise including children’s clothing, perfume, shoes, sportswear and undergarments since December 12.
Through video surveillance, the store determined the two had been making fraudulent transactions for themselves, friends and family.
According to police, the two made the fraudulent transactions by checking each other out at cash registers, scanning the items and then voiding the items from the transactions.
In addition to the $6,619.31 in fraudulent purchases, police state the pair also took items without ever scanning them.
The pair were arrested at 7:56 p.m. Wednesday and charged with Level 6 felony counts of theft.
