Marlene June Deel Elkins, 73, passed away the morning of November 7, 2015 at her home in Hanahan, S.C.

Mrs. Elkins was born November 18, 1941, in Haysville; a daughter of Desco Deel and Goldie Ruth Drake Deel. Her family moved to Crystal when she was about six, and she lived there throughout her life before she moved to S.C.

She attended elementary school at Cuzco and middle and high school at Springs Valley/French Lick. She was an active member of the Crystal Community Church and was involved in various areas of the church. She was also the office manager for Elkins Construction until she moved to the Charleston, S.C. area in 1983. There she was an active member at Dorchester Road of the Nazerene where she taught Sunday School and led the VBS program for many years and then Charleston First Church of the Nazarene where she currently served as the secretary of the church board. While living in the Charleston area, she worked as a vendor stocker at the Navy Commissary and as office manager for Lankford Plumbing. She was currently serving as the president of The Gideons Auxiliary, N. Charleston.

Mrs. Elkins enjoyed baking, decorating cakes, sewing, and working in her flower gardens, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She was also adamant about keeping her house clean. She organizing everything and referred to this habit as “digging dirt”.

Surviving are her husband of 56 years, David K. Elkins; two daughters, Susan Thompson and her husband Jamie Shearme of Pinopolis, S.C. and Sandra Tweedie and her husband Jason of Summerville; two sons, Mark Elkins and his wife Debra of Jasper and Matthew Elkins and his wife Heather of Moncks Corner; two sisters, Janet Thompson of Hodgenville, Ky. and Norma Jean Beaver of Greenwood, Ind.; a brother, Steven Deel of Greenwood, Ind.; five grandchildren, Daniel and Josh Nicholson, Lauren Bagwell, Cody Elkins, and Lochlynn Tweedie; and eight great grandchildren, Maria, Kristina, Chase, Madison, Marie, Little Joe, Bowen, and Helaina.

She was proceeded in death by her parents and a brother, Donald Deel.

Her family is holding a memorial service at 3 p.m., November 28, 2015, in the Charleston First Church of the Nazarene, Hanahan, SC for local family and friends.

There will also be a memorial service held December 5, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the Crystal Community Church in Crystal for family and friends. Time of fellowship to follow service.
