The Greater Jasper School Board approved the bond terms to continue forward with an expansion of Ireland Elementary.

Superintendent Dr. Tracy Lorey explained that the school district “will be funding the expansion at Ireland through lease financing, so the building corporation technically purchases the portion of Ireland Elementary School, and the district will lease that portion from the building corporation.”

The building corporation will purchased the portion of the building for $470,710.00. Fair market value according to Nordhoff.

The board decided to issue bonds with an 8-year repayment plan, taking into consideration the costs of taxes on property owners versus the interest paid on the project. Personal property taxes were the centerpiece of the discussion, along with the effects of the project on homeowners, farmers and business owners.

Construction is expected to begin in April of 2016 with completion by January of 2017. The expansion will only provide enough space to meet the current needs of the elementary school.
