Roger William Ingle, 88
Roger William Ingle, 88, Springfield, Ill., died at 10:30 a.m. CST Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015, at Bickford Senior Living in Springfield.
He was born in Huntingburg on Nov. 24, 1926, to William and Ethel Ingle. His stepfather was Frank Utley. He married Audrey Ann Schymik on Aug. 22, 1948. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Ingle served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from college in Evansville and taught high school English and coached basketball in Indiana and Illinois. He then worked as a school photographer for 10 years and obtained a master’s degree and certifications in school administration.
He was a principal at Hartsburg-Emden High School in Hartsburg, Ill., and then at Pope County Elementary School in Golconda, Ill. He then become superintendent of Hartsburg-Emden Schools and later at Tremont (Ill.) Schools, as well as interim superintendent at San Jose, Ill. After retiring from education, he founded a software business and wrote programs to aid in school administration.
He enjoyed church, socializing, travel, cards, board games, golf, fishing, camping and swing dancing with his wife.
Surviving are a son, Paul Ingle and wife Dana of Petersburg, Ill.; three daughters, Ann Worthington of Springfield, Ill., Sarah Renard of Douglasville, Ga., and Laura Hayes and husband J.T. of Delavan, Ill.; a sister, Helen Ingle-Spinner of Huntingburg; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother Jack Ingle; and two sisters, Louise Ingle-Shoppinghorse and Jean Ingle-Singer.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. CST Friday at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg, Ill.
