Six-month bridge project to begin north of Ferdinand
Ferdinand — No road closures are expected when work begins on a bridge north of Ferdinand Friday, but residents and travelers should expect delays as State Road 162 is reduced to a single lane of traffic.
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced that on or after Friday, April 25, work will begin on the bridge deck rehabilitation project on State Road 162 north of Ferdinand. Contractor’s crews will be replacing the bridge deck on the structure 0.44 mile north of S.R. 264 over Green Creek.
In order to maintain a safe work zone, one lane will be closed at a time. Stop lights will be installed on each end of the work zone to control traffic through the area. There will also be an 11-foot width restriction in place.
The contract was awarded to American Contracting of Jeffersonville, Indiana, in February of this year for $311,822.63.
It is estimated the project will be complete in October of 2014, weather permitting.
INDOT reminds motorists to follow the posted work zone speed limit, use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through a work zone. For the latest news and information about INDOT, please visit http://www.in.gov/indot.
