56 year tradition continues, Heinrichsdorf Fest June 9-10
The St. Henry Heinrichsdorf Fest is this weekend in the Dubois County hamlet.
The first annual St. Henry Heinrichsdorf Fest was held in 1961 to raise funds for the town’s centennial in 1962. For many years, two one-day fests were held, on Memorial and Labor Day, but for at least the last 27 years the Heinrichsdorf Fest has been a two-day event held the second weekend in June.
This year’s fest begins Friday at 5:30 p.m. Enjoy two days of festival activities including live entertainment, kids games, family fun, great food, a beer garden (this year serving Yuengling as well as other traditional offerings), plus much more at the two-day fest, held in and around the St. Henry Community Club.
Tech Tunes Mobile DJ Services will entertain Friday night and a live band, Ace & Lights will perform Saturday evening. Music both nights starts at 7 p.m.
The real star of the weekend is St. Henry’s Famous barbecue chicken, pork chops and fried chicken dinners, plus delicious sides including baked beans, potato salad and homemade slaw.
Not interested in a full meal? Burgers, soft drinks and more will be available.
Dine in air conditioned comfort in the Community Club.
The Christian Mothers will host a dessert stand and of course, lemon shake-ups will be available.
Early Saturday morning, the St. Henry Community Club will host a 4-mile run/ walk. Start time for the race is 8 a.m. with registration from 7-7:45 a.m.
In addition, summer fun begins with 101 Country WBDC presenting the first stop of the 2017 Cornhole Tournament of Champions Tour. Registration begins at 1 p.m.; with throwing at 2 p.m.
The grounds reopen Saturday evening at 5 p.m. According to organizer Josh Meyer, a new entertainment trailer/grandstand will debut this year, and a variety of kids games has been added, including a football toss and nerf shoot. But never fear, the ever-popular bounce house will be returning, as will the ring toss hosted by the St. Henry Volunteer Fire Department.
“The entire community participates in one form or another to pull this event off, and it is the number one fundraising event for the Community Club,” Meyer explained. “Money raised goes to many community club and community improvements throughout the year, as well as funding kids events such as a visit from Santa, a Halloween Costume party, and an Easter egg hunt.”
After years of practice the committee, which is heavily peppering with members of the younger generation, know what to expect.
By the numbers: 1,800 hamburgers grilled. 540 whole chickens cut up and either grilled or fried. 30 pork loins cut into chops and grilled. 50+ barrels of beer emptied
