4th Fridays Summer Concert Series kicks off this week

After a year hiatus, 4th Fridays Summer Concert Series in Huntingburg’s Market Street Park returns this Friday evening.

“Market Street Park is such a great outdoor venue with a lot of space,” Destination Huntingburg Executive Director Sarah Flamion mentioned. “We are pretty excited about kicking off the summer concert series.”

Coming out of the pandemic, that outdoor space will make it easier for attendees to socially distance and feel safe as events begin to start back up.

In its second year, 4th Fridays was created through a partnership between the City of Huntingburg, Destination Huntingburg, and the IU Center for Rural Engagement to bring a and is designed to bring more arts and culture offerings to the area. Huntingburg was one of three communities selected in 2018 to be part of a collaboration with the university.

Musically, the evening kicks off at 5 p.m. with the Sam Butler Sextet followed by Porch Kat at 6:30 p.m. with The Cold Stares taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. Food trucks and bounce houses will be set up in the park as well as a bar serviced by the Gaslight.

Shops on Fourth Street will be open later that evening and more restaurant options are available in the area.

The event itself is free; visitors pay for their own food and drinks. If you are going, bring your own blankets and chairs for seating.

“Music and food brings everybody together,” Flamion said. “It looks like it’s going to be a really great night.”

4th Fridays continues through the summer with concerts planned for June 25, July 23, and August 27.
