347 pounds of medications properly disposed of at the Medication Collection Event in Dubois County
Organizers counted 650 residents taking advantage of Saturday’s opportunity to properly dispose of medications on a beautiful fall day. Residents are doing a great job cleaning out those medicine cabinets. Residents properly disposed of 347 pounds of medications on Saturday. Residents also recycled cardboard and plastic bags from the event. The medication collection day event, in association with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s national event, gives residents an opportunity to dispose of old medications safely.
We brought back one county site to the collection this fall, thanks to the Ferdinand Fire Department, the Ferdinand Police Department and the Indiana State Police Post.
Each properly disposed item reduces contamination in our water system and lowers the risk of accidental overdose or ingestion of outdated or incorrect medication. It is medication kept away from kids, teenagers or those susceptible to becoming prescription medication addicts.
The organizers especially thank the Dubois County Solid Waste District, Dubois County CARES, the Dubois County Advocacy for Recovery and Prevention Council (ARC), the Ferdinand Police Department, the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department, the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, and the many volunteers for stepping up to help ensure the event went smoothly this spring. We also thank the State Police Post for hosting the event. At least 18 people assisted to ensure the collection day went as planned, including seven CARES volunteers.
Residents can watch local media for information on our spring 2027 collection, which will be towards the end of April and may also use the 24/7 drop box site at the Jasper City Police Department.
Partners for the event include the Indiana State Police Post District 34, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Dubois County Advocacy for Recovery and Prevention Council (ARC), Dubois County CARES, Dubois County Solid Waste District, Ferdinand Police Department, Ferdinand Fire Department and Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.
