329 lbs of medications collected during Medication Collection Day

The sponsors of the Dubois County Medication Collection Day report that the collection on Saturday, April 25 brought in many residents, despite the dreary weather.

According to Tri-Cap RSVP director Becky Beckman, a total of 308 residents brought in 329 pounds of medications which were then prepared for proper disposal.

Along with the medications, Dubois County Solid Waste District director Carla Striegel-Winner said that over 75 pounds of plastic (including 23 pounds of lids for local schools) and 11 pounds of cardboard medication packaging were recycled.

Sponsors for the event included the Dubois County Substance Abuse Council, Tri-CAP RSVP, Ferdinand and Holland Volunteer Fire Departments, Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police Post District 34, Habig Older Americans Center and the Dubois County Solid Waste District.

According to Detective Christian Gogel, who oversees the Huntingburg Police Department’s 24/7 drop box,  the box has been utilized quite often this spring.

Sponsors of the take-back day are planning another collection day in the fall, but residents are also encouraged to utilize the Huntingburg Police Department’s 24/7 lobby drop box, which is available to any Dubois County resident at any time.
