The Huntingburg Herbstfest Queen pageant will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, September 20, at the Southridge High School auditorium.
The Huntingburg Herbstfest opens next Thursday, September 24, and runs through Saturday, September 26, at the Huntingburg City Park. The Herbstfest Parade will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27.
Here are the nine Herbstfest Queen Candidates.
Emily Eckert is the 17-year-old daughter of Tony and Donna Eckert of Huntingburg. She is a junior at Southridge High School where she is a member the basketball team, cross country team, tennis team, FCA, BPA, Natural Helpers, and is a class officer. She is also a member of St. Mary’s Youth Group. She plans to attend Indiana State University to become a law enforcement agent. She is sponsored by Darlene’s Beauty Shop.Kayley Payne is the 17-year-old daughter of Dale and Tara Payne of Huntingburg. She is a senior at Southridge High School where she is a member of the Raiderette Dance Team, FCA, FFA, and is the football manager. She plans to attend Kentucky Wesleyan to become a paralegal to become an attorney. She is sponsored by Fazoli’s.Misty Merter is the 16-year-old daughter of Alan and Donna Merter of Huntingburg. She is a junior at Southridge High School where she is a member of the basketball team, softball team, FCA, FFA, German Club, and SADD. She is also a member of St. Mary’s Church. She plans to attend Vincennes University to major in agriculture business and accounting. She is sponsored by Stac Industrial and anonymous.Claire Scherle is the 18-year-old daughter of Jim and Mary Scherle of Huntingburg. She is a senior at Southridge High School where she is a member of the swim team, FFA, SADD, FCA, and Outdoors Club. She is also involved in 4-H and Army PT. She plans to continue her service in the United States Army as military police officer while attending college to be an agriculture education teacher. She is sponsored by Red House.Bailey Maria Barrett is the 17-year-old daughter of Scott and Carla Barrett of Huntingburg. She is a senior at Southridge High School where she is a member of the cheer team, diving team, track manager, student council, National Honors Society, PEP, SADD, FCA, German Club, and is a cadet teacher at Huntingburg Elementary School. She is also a member of St. Mary’s Youth Group, participates in church mission trips and TEC #92, and is a member of the Holland Dutchman 4-H Club. She plans to become an elementary school teacher after graduation. She is sponsored by her family.Olivia Kazee is the 17-year-old daughter of James and Natalie Buening of Jasper. She is a senior at Southridge High School where she is involved in FFA, Key Club, and Art Club. She is also involved with the Kiwanis and March of Dimes. She is a member of the Young Women’s Program and Youth Program at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She plans to attend Cottey College Missouri to become a youth counselor. She is sponsored by Disinger & Kruger Jewelers of Huntingburg.Erica Buechlein is the 17-year-old daughter of Bob Buechlein and Angie Brooks of Jasper. She is a senior at Southridge High School where she is a member of the Cheer Team, PEP, BPA, Key Club, German Club, Student Council, and Choir. She is also involved with the March of Dimes, Riley’s Children’s Hospital fundraisers, and volunteering at the Teen Outback. She plans to go to college to study education or psychology. She is sponsored by Ron’s Place.Nicole Wittman is the 19-year-old daughter of Larry and Arlene Wittman of Dale. She is a freshman at the University of Southern Indiana where she is working on becoming an occupational therapy assistant. At USI, she is involved in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Club and the Volunteer USI Club. She was a 2015 graduate of Southridge High School where she was a member of Marching Band, Swim Team, SADD, PEP, and FCA. She was also a member of the St. Henry Saints 4-H Club, where she now serves on the Sheep Council. She is sponsored by Frantz.Jessica Hilsmeyer is the 17-year-old daughter of Terry and Karen Hilsmeyer of Huntingburg. She is a senior at Southridge High School where she is a member of the Cheer Team, FFA, FCA, National Honor Society, Outdoors Club, and she is Class Secretary. She is also a member of Girl Scouts and is the secretary for the St. Henry Saints 4-H Club. She plans to become an E.R. Nurse. She is sponsored by her family.
