Thomas Edward “Ed” Gabrel, 74, of French Lick, died August 28, 2023, at IU Hospice House of Bloomington.

He was born October 5, 1948, in Sweetwater, Tenn., to parents D.L. & Georgia Mae (Tinnel) Gabrel.
He married Sara Ann Kempf May 31, 1986.
Ed was a U.S. Army Vietnam and Korean War veteran. He retired from French Lick Resort. He was a member of Jasper Outdoor Recreation and Living Waters Assembly of God.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Gabrel of French Lick; sons, Paul Gabrel of English, Cody Gabrel of French Lick, Thomas Gabrel (Corrina) Of Orleans and Tommy Gabriel of Lenoir City, Tenn.; daughters, Shannon Barnes of Newport, Tenn. and Tanya Leanna Petty of Sevierville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Heather Sturgen, James Gabrel, Wylee Gabrel and Cilena Gabrel; three great-grandchildren; brother, David Gabrel (Jennie) of Wheatland; sisters, Barbara Cooper of Sweetwater, Tenn. and Helen Halterman of Lenoir City, Tenn.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Randy Gabrel.
Visitation for Thomas Edward “Ed” Gabrel will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Sulphur Creek Church. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at the church. Pastor Larry Grow and Pastor Patty Rottet will officiate.
Burial will be in Sulphur Creek Cemetery.
