16-year-old injured after tip-over crash on Sultan’s Run entrance road
A Jasper teen escaped with minor injuries after his SUV rolled onto its side and slid about 200 feet near Sultan’s Run Golf Course Saturday evening.
Deputies responded to the report of the SUV on the road leading to Sultan’s Run Golf Course at about 8:50 p.m.
According to deputies, William Sternberg, 16, of W. 9th St., Jasper, was leaving the golf course traveling west on the roadway in a 2004 GMC Envoy when he was distracted and the SUV went off the side of the road. The road had a small drop off and Sternberg attempted to bring the SUV back on the road but overcorrected causing it to tip over onto its driver’s side. The SUV then slid about 200 feet down the roadway on its side before spinning 180 degrees coming to rest off the north side of the roadway facing south.
Sternberg was able to get out of the SUV on his own before deputies arrived. He was treated at the scene for an injury to his left hand before being taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.
Police considered the SUV a total loss.
Jasper Police Department, Indiana State Police, Jasper Volunteer Fire Department, Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services and a Bob Luegers wrecker assisted at the scene.
